What even is embodiment?

Is it just me, or does the word ‘embodiment’ seem to be everywhere at the moment? (Not that I’m complaining - it’s amazing!) So what is embodiment, anyway?

I thought it was time to explore this foundation of my coaching work, and the art of integrating it into everyday life and work… and why we might want to live an embodied life.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, embodiment is

“someone or something that represents a quality or an idea exactly”

I’ve heard it used this way when it comes to building a business. For example, “in order to reach your goals, you need to embody the woman who has already achieved them”.

Similarly it’s used to help you become the person you want to be, by “embodying her” as much as possible.

‘Embodiment’ is also a word widely used to express the act of being in our bodies more, using our senses, experiencing life, being grounded.

These are fabulous ideals.

But they’re not the whole story, at least in the context of Feminine Embodiment Coaching.

Embodiment is about getting to know all the layers of yourself: those close to the surface, and those that may have been hidden for a while. It’s about exploring your inner world with curiosity, playing with your edges, and ultimately expressing your truest, fullest physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self in the world.

It’s about finding and expressing you.

The deepest, truest, purest you.

Putting ‘embodiment’ into embodiment coaching

As a certified Feminine Embodiment Coach, one of the most beautiful moments in my work is when I have the privilege of witnessing a woman in her full truth.

She’s sharing a vulnerable truth that she’s just realised.

She’s expressing raw, important emotions… through her body.

She lights up with a spark that comes from deep within her being.

She’s exploring limiting beliefs or beautiful boundaries from an inner perspective, tapping into the wisdom of her body, rather than following the logical mind.

These are beautiful examples of what it means to receive a Feminine Embodiment Coaching session. They are ways in which you are invited into a supportive space, dropped into your beautiful body, and take the time to explore your whole being with curiosity.

Embodiment is about being the truest expression of your very aliveness.

It’s pretty challenging to put into words… it’s very much an experience.

Why would you want to be embodied?

There are so many incredible beauties that unfold as you explore life through the embodied lens. Let me ask a couple of questions… see how these land.

What would it mean to you, to know yourself more deeply? You might make faster, more confident decisions. You might dress differently, move differently, trust yourself more deeply. You might find an endless, unfathomable self-love.

What would it mean to you, to know how to tap into your inner wisdom? You might be less afraid to make change. You might face the world with more steadiness. You might feel empowered with a skill that nothing can take away.

What would it mean to you, to experience life with more fullness? You might find that life takes on new, deep meaning. You might find more joy and pleasure in the day-to-day. You may find deep comfort in the simplest of moments.

These are just some of the blessings that can arrive with exploring life through embodiment practices and principles. And every body is different. Every body is whole. Your experience may be completely different.

How to bring embodiment into your life

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about embodiment in everyday life is using my senses. I love dropping into my body and feeling the soft carpet beneath my feet, the cool evening breeze over my skin, hearing the sounds of my keyboard keys clacking and the palm trees rustling outside.

The senses are a beautiful way to give yourself the gift of a fuller life.

But embodiment in everyday life is also so much more.

It’s taking a moment to turn inward and notice what’s going on in your body when you hear something, see something, experience something. It’s tapping into that inner knowing and offering it awareness - and perhaps taking action, if that’s right.

It’s cultivating an awareness of the overly chatty mind, inviting it to take some time off and turning up the volume of your body so you can live with more alignment, power, and authenticity.

And yes, it’s expressing qualities and ideas through your body.

And also.

As so many of my mentors and peers are showing, it’s bringing embodiment practices into all kinds of work.

In my world, I’m creating copywriting services that integrate embodiment sessions to help clients create sales pages, emails and more that not only convert - but feel good.

In Mary’s world, she’s dialling up the senses so we can immerse ourselves in pleasure and the beauties of everyday life.

In Ainsley’s world, she’s drawing pleasure and business together so that women can do good work that feels good.

In Anna’s world, she bringing embodiment and relationships together, helping women attract masculine love and create beautiful relationships.

In Jess’s world, she’s supporting women to get to know themselves deeply, and expand into their fullest aliveness.

Embodiment can be a gift in all kinds of everyday scenarios. It’s the practice that keeps on giving.

What I’m finding, and witnessing, is that it’s a philosophy that can be integrated into endless everyday moments. It’s a practice, and there’s always room to improve.

There seems to be a swell of knowing and experiencing embodiment in our world - and I’m here for it. I cannot wait to see where this beautiful awareness takes us, and I’m tickled pink to be part of the movement towards a more embodied world.
